52 Years of Empowerment

Association for the Welfare of Persons with a Mental Handicap (AWMH)

For over 52 years, the Association for the Welfare of Persons with a Mental Handicap (AWMH), Maharashtra, has been at the forefront of empowering individuals with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disabilities, and Multiple Disabilities. Today, AWMH supports a state-wide network of around 90 special schools across Maharashtra, providing specialized education and care.

Their core initiatives span early intervention, pre-school stimulation, sports, vocational training, recreational programmes, and awareness creation — all designed to unlock potential and foster independence.

Sports have been a transformative pillar of their work. Since 2006, AWMH has organised the State-Level Table Tennis and Cricket Tournaments for special schools, giving hundreds of students the thrill of competition and the joy of achievement on a state-wide stage.

Their Weekend Sports Coaching Programme is an ongoing weekly initiative for over 30 students in Mumbai and Thane. The programme focuses on building physical fitness, sporting skills, self-confidence, teamwork, and social interaction — nurturing not just athletes, but confident and capable individuals.

Child Welfare & Protection

Bal Asha Trust

For over 40 years, Bal Asha Trust has been a beacon of hope for abandoned, surrendered, and vulnerable children across India. Their mission is rooted in the belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment and the opportunity to thrive.

Their holistic care model encompasses nutrition, healthcare, education, developmental support, and emotional well-being — ensuring each child receives the individualized attention they need. For children with medical conditions such as Hepatitis B, HIV, TB, cerebral palsy, and congenital heart conditions, as well as those with developmental needs including Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, albinism, intersex, and visual or physical disabilities, Bal Asha Trust provides specialized, round-the-clock care.

Therapeutic and psychological counselling forms a cornerstone of their work, helping children heal from trauma and build emotional resilience. At the heart of their philosophy is a powerful conviction: "Every child belongs in a family." Guided by this, the Trust tirelessly works toward biological family tracing and reunification, ethical and legal adoption, and preventive community interventions to keep families together whenever possible.
